This movie was widely panned here on Free Republic, even before it came out,, because of a black woman playing Helen of Troy , and that transgender girl playing the part of a boy in the movie.
Do those casting choices cancel out the rest of the movie , as to whether it’s a decent film or not? When you see it, please let us know.
Chistopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is just a bad movie in almost every way. pic.twitter.com/MeSMhArcu8— Joe Redden | The Older Millennial (@teameffujoe) July 17, 2026
I’ll try to remember to come back after I see it. From what I’ve heard those 2 are indeed bad news in it, but are only 15 minutes of screen total combined or so.
It’s an obvious misfire to do that, but will it ruin the whole thing? I doubt it. It’s basically those 2 actor choices and the ‘modernized dialog’ that seems to really be the issues. Will see.
If Nolan stresses that he is into historical accuracy and then race swaps; he cannot be trusted. Not on anything.
Like finding out that your “uncle” is a pedo — what else has he been doing?
Hard pass !
They use a Viking ship, not a Greek ship.
Off by centuries !
Just got done with it. The things I thought I wouldn’t like didn’t bother me (the cast), the things I thought I would like I liked mostly more than I expected (especially Damon). It’s not a ‘masterpiece’ but a solid 8.5/10 for me.
But I can understand for sure why some won’t like it, it’s fairly exhausting in a lot of ways.
