Nonsense. I encountered those barriers in the 1960s. I bet the aerospace industry was an early adopter.

The plane's Fuel Quantity Indication System did not have shielding because the SOP wasn't required at the time the aircraft was built and inspected for that matter.
BTW, aviation safety is not forward thinking. The whole evolution of flight centers around "fixing mistakes". Plus manufacturers try to design/build planes as cheap as possible, especially if you are over budget and need to cut corners.
