This Homer revisionism has been going on for a while. When I went to U of Chicago, we had a "Common Core" that ensured exposure to things like Homer, and I got both the Iliad and the Odyssey in "Human Being and Citizen". While I had Amy Kass (perfectly sound, and very intelligent, and a stand-up Guy I think named Haley), some of my schoolmates had a different teacher who suggested that "The Odyssey" was written by a woman, using deconstructionist arguments like a ship going through a narrow channel between two cliffs being vaginal imagery. This was in 1982.

The termites have been present at all levels, for a long time. What's more, most of them are stupid termites.
