Republican lawmakers press WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert to protect Caitlin Clark
Fox News ^ | July 8, 2026 | Amber Harding

The criticism of WNBA officiating has now reached Capitol Hill.

Just days after Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark publicly called on the league to do a better job protecting its players, a group of Republican lawmakers is demanding answers from WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert.

In a letter led by Rep. August Pfluger, chairman of the Republican Study Committee, and co-signed by a dozen members of Congress — including lawmakers from Indiana — the group argued that the WNBA has failed to adequately protect its biggest star from repeated unnecessary physical play.

"Caitlin Clark is transforming women's sports," the letter began. "She has inspired a new generation of young girls to participate in athletics and has become one of the most influential figures in the history of women's basketball."

The lawmakers also point to Clark's impact on the league's popularity.

"She is also the face of your league," they wrote. "Clark has significantly increased fan interest, driven record television ratings, and attracted new corporate sponsors for the WNBA."

From there, though, the letter turns sharply toward the league's handling of on-court physicality.

"Unfortunately, what they too often witness is not simply aggressive competition, but repeated acts of unnecessary physical hostility and violence," the lawmakers wrote.

The letter specifically referenced several incidents involving Clark.

"Clark has been hip-checked, poked in the eye, and struck in the throat during games," it stated. "These incidents go far beyond routine physical play, yet the WNBA and its officiating have too often failed to address these unacceptable incidents and hold players accountable."

The "struck in the throat" reference stemmed from Clark's June 24 game against the Phoenix Mercury, when officials reviewed contact from Alyssa Thomas during a loose-ball scramble but declined to assess a flagrant foul.

Well nice to see all our other problems have been solved, so they can focus on this.

That’ll make the other WNBA players and all 5 of their long time fans hate Caitlin all the more.

You're probably right so she'll resign.

After all, they'll all think that she's a Republican. Which is worse than being called a Nazi at this point.

Maybe arrest people who commit assault, even if they are athletes? Also add some hate crime charges. And if it kills the sport, that’s OK.

Just think what would happen if it was a vast majority white league and Caitln was black and being treated the way she is.

Indoctrination and propaganda work. The Democrats and leftists have turned our minority communities into anti-white Madrassas. This is the result.

Indoctrination and propaganda work.

Correct. And Caitlin Clark is a victim.

This leaves Commissioner Engelbert with two options:

A. Protect one white girl.
B. Cater to many angry racist black players.

And now my fearless prediction:

Engelbert will issue a weak statement of concern.
Then she’ll go with Option B.

The anti-white sentiment pervades blacks and Muslims of any race and to a lesser extent Indian Americans. However, I don't see Hispanics and East Asians in the same light; they are assimilable as the former group comes from historically Catholic countries with a Western civilization while the latter group are high achievers and industrious. In the long run and based on intermarriage rates, both groups will assimilate into the general American population.

Clark should pull chocks and go to the Europe league.....the wnba would more than likely eventually fold......hell, it’s on life support as it is.....wouldn’t take much for it to do a complete header into the black hole of poor decisions.

No, no, nooo...not this.

Lean into to it, market the league as wrestling does their adverts.

CFE (Cat Fighting Entertainment)
WWF (Cat Fighting Federation)

Uniforms being torn, hair pulled, maybe games played in lingerie, former rivals being held down and kissed/groped by a gang of girls.

“Cagers in Heat!”
“The Heated Court!”
“Cool Hand Lulu!”
“Hop Hell!”
“No Fouls, Just Feelings”
“Full Court Bloodbath!”

Yep. I have told this story before:

A while back I was out for a walk. And I happened to walk by a bus stop where two older black men were sitting and talking. As I passed, I heard one man say to the other that most white people belong to the Ku Klux Klan.

I doubt if he just made that up.
He got it from somewhere.

If you think about it, what race DON’T blacks have a grievance with?

It’s so pervasive in their culture, they’re even racist against each other...somehow believing lighter skinned blacks are somehow superior to darker skinned blacks.

Explain THAT one to me would you.

Indeed. it's a stupid PR act. Under what basis does Caitlin Clark need "protection?" From whom? How is this a federal issue?

Help Trump dismantle the politicized, phony, civil-rights lawfare apparatus from the top, especially within the DOJ and within the vast Federal bureaucracy

If this were a situation with a black player in any sport, at any level, what a huge national story it would be, and it would be an enduring story.

How about protecting ALL the players. The league’s unwatchable. It’s basically MMA with a ball.

” Cater to many angry racist “lesbian” black players.”

Now it’s correct.
