Interesting Geographical tidbit.
If Switzerland win tomorrow, it means you could go to 7 out of 8 of the Final 8 teams without going through another country.
Start in Norway, cross the North Sea to England, then take the Eurostar to Brussels, then go into France, go into Switzerland, go back to France and go to Spain, then take a short ferry to Morocco.
Only the Argentina-Egypt winner will be the outlier.
We were with friends tonight to watch the game. They don’t know much about soccer, but wanted us to watch it with them to help explain what was happening. So good thing we found other things to talk about. The game was, I hate to say it, exactly what I thought would happen going into this Cup. It was easy to fall for the hype, and I did some, but the result tonight also didn’t surprise me. Disappointing though, for sure.
As I said, we really lucked out with Turkey losing their first two games. Otherwise, we probably bow out in the round of 32.
And I still think it was a mistake to rest our first team against Turkey, because they needed all the time playing together as possible.
More talented teams don’t need to do it, but we did.

Our defense was always suspect...so long as we could maintain possession and pressure the other team it was a masked problem. As soon as we hit another team that could constantly pressure us it became exposed. In prior games there were moments this showed. When I learned Lukaku and De Bruyne were on the bench.....uh oh.
Belgium sent the message with their very first possession, they should have scored in the first minute.

Pretty good, I’d say, especially France. I don’t see Spain beating them.
Argentina and England, if they meet, should be a classic. I have a feeling surviving Mexico, has only made England stronger.

Their defense has been suspect. Wouldn’t be shocked if Egypt pull it off.
