Here is a statement by Shannon Miranda, Founder of Miranda’s Rescue:
She explains they are not an absolute “no kill” shelter. They have been in operation for 30 years.
I guess she had her fingers cross behind her back When she said they were no-kill.
Thanks for the link. 30 years in operation, yes, there is no doubt that terminally ill, old and crippled, or incurably violent dogs are best to be put out of their misery.
Did this outfit go beyond those reasons? I don’t know, but my dad was an only child and his dog was his best friend until he was out on his own and married. For 85 years he still always had a dog, but knew when to put it down: one had cancer, several simply died of old age, another attacked the milk man (who had kicked it).
48 years ago I was 23, single, and no dog, bachin it in an old farmhouse. Once, I came in from working until dark in the fields, and found somebody had given me their dog.
It was old and suffering, could hardly raise its head. The owner probably didn’t want to be the one to put it down. I did, and then buried it.
I can't blame her. Pet owners are the problem. The numbers of abandoned dogs is rising exponentially due to irresponsible owners. They don't fix their animals and shouldn't own dogs in the first place.
Shelters locally, (Tulsa county) are full to the breaking point. This overflow will be transferred to a kill shelter ultimately.
