The Puritans hated wealth as it caused People to in a short time become lovers of the perks and benefits of lots of money vs the Love of God in their Hearts...The Love of Money is not the greatest sin but it is very dangerous as it leads to worse things...
Matthew 6:24, which states that no one can serve two masters: God and Mammon, you will eitherlove the one and hate the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other.
It’s probably unrealistic to discount this teaching.
