Nine 13 hour shifts is child’s play, only a soy boy would brag about it thinking it was a big deal, a service plumber or factory worker can easily chew that up during a busy period and working into the night to handle daytime overflow.
A lot of people have worked hours and continuous days and months that would blow your mind, some will probably post their stories on this thread, and the things that happen in the military in regard to going without sleep are also mind blowing.
For many fields work comes in spurts that are unavoidable, so you keep going and going, and going.
People can do that. I agree. In the old days,docs in training would do 36 hour straight coverage(no official sleep breaks) to get them used to real life scenarios.
The doc students rebelled and that requirement was phased out.
Big question, do you want a rested doc to see your kid at 4am, or someone who is just finishing 9 13 hour shifts?...
I would like to see docs trained on 24 hour straight shifts with backup between 18-24 hours.
Supposedly perceptual distortions and hallucination can start in as little as 24 hours without sleep.
Look up traffic accident incidence rates with 4 hour sleep.

Take a look at FAA pilot rest requirements. I don’t see any remarks that suggest that pilots who need the suggested rest are soyboys.
