If you are an adult you really shouldn’t care what someone thinks about your choices.

If you're an adult you should know better than to mouth off about personal choices made by others that don't affect you in any way. You can, of course, do so anyway and be thought a meddling busy-body for it.

I always appreciate it when someone tells me I might be making a mistake or when someone points out general pitfalls of something.

As an adult I am perfectly capable of either ignoring what people are saying or deciding it’s useful. They can keep talking or not, especially when there comments are not directed at any one person.
