Please don't attempt this same thing in south Chicago.

A co-worker of mine, in his late 30s, reasonably trim and in shape, dressed in a suit to see a client. He took the company car, a white Mercury Grand Marquis that looked very similar to the Ford Crown Victoria cop cars common at the time.

The car was running out of gasoline on the highway in west Chicago, and that exit did not have an adjacent on-ramp. He got off, and everyone around was staring at him . . . hard. When he went inside to pay (no pay at that pump at the time in the early 2000s), he was told by the man behind the counter that everyone thought he was a cop, and they were either trying to stay clear, or take him out, and it would be best if he left right away.

I got the same treatment in St Louis. The young female, black, cashier quietly and urgently told me “get in ya car you gotta go l. Don’t do nothin just go”

I didn’t heed her warning, but there was definitely a group of about 20 of these simians staring me down the whole time.

I only say that because it was the same exact scene from a gorilla documentary I saw before.
