@GenFlynn
This was no mistake.
The crew of the USS Liberty.
@RepThomasMassie thank you for keeping this story alive.

Nice try.
What's telling is that stories about the Liberty incident always pop up when the US is fighting with Israel.
I get all that, and I am a resolute supporter of Israel. Yet, as with the attack on Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and the assassination of JFK, key aspects of the attack on the Liberty remain suppressed. No one likes being lied to as if they are a gullible dolt. Suspicion as to Israel’s conduct is natural, and it is hard to believe that the attack on the Liberty was an innocent mistake.

It is easier for me to believe that “Hillary never lies”, than for me to believe this was an accident.
For a foreigner who doesn’t live or vote in America you sure have a very narrow and focused, and extraordinarily active thread posting history to drive your political mission here at FR.
There is nothing random or participatory about your activism here, it is all mission, all day, every day, from your country, it almost looks like a job.
Your general recollection is the same as mine.
I was trying to augment yout point that there are many historical events that we can shine a spotlight upon and treat as a current event: the sinking of the USS Liberty, 9/11 attack, attack on Pearl Harbor, assassination of President Lincoln, etc. All history. Should any be treated as relevant today?
Perhaps the factor in the past that persists the most today is Muslim imperialism/terrorism. So, in that sense, 9/11 is just part of Islamic imperialism and terrorism that includes the October 7th attacks and current attacks on shipping, ports and refineries, beheading attempts in Britain, rapes throughout Europe, and Muslim expansion in the US.
The attacks on the USS Liberty and Pearl Harbor say little about Israel, Jews, Japan or Japanese today.
“Massie’s USS Liberty rant debunked”
I think even his fanatic supporters know the Liberty is a BS story.
Yeah, nothing to do with the loss of American Sailors lives at all
You people are delusional
Massie has kept it alive ‘cause it feeds his hatred of Jews and defense of hamas.
Well, who did in fact kill Christ?
Seriously, being disgusted with Israel isn’t always about hating the Jews
Sure it does.
But, deliberately ignoring that they get used for propaganda purposes in sustained campaign against the United States is something else.
But just like the Islamic terrorists that use human shields and cry “genocide” when their hospital on top of a bunker is bombed, folks like you would rather no one notice that.

Trump....and taxpayers..... should take note.
Indicative of Israel’s total control of the US government: foreign aid tax dollars to Israel increased dramatically after its June 8, 1967 attack on the USS Liberty. 34 Americans killed and another 170 Americans injured.
Israel made the US government increase tax dollar aid by over 450% by 1968, including a shift toward substantial military support......resulting in 100% taxpayer financing of Israel’s military.
Following the 1967 bombing...... which infuriated taxpayer......,US aid to Israel exploded from limited economic assistance to substantial military gifts and grants. By 1971–1973, military aid rose significantly as the opportunistic Israel exerted its control.
The US was forced to announce it viewed Israel as a “key ally.” Israel made the US government concoct a fairy tale that it alone could contain Soviet influence in the region.
Despite Israel forcing the US government to label the attack a “mistake,” many USS Liberty survivors and U.S. officials maintain the Israeli attack was deliberate, a claim highlighted by the report “Washington’s Fateful Cover-Up of Israel’s Attack on the USS Liberty.”
Israel made sure the incident did not loosen its grip on the US government or stop the development of a “special relationship”........ as the overbearing Israel calls it.
The US has since provided over $300 billion tax dollars in total assistance to Israel both before and after the USS Liberty bombing.
Interesting.
So if Israel runs everything, why did they allow the Liberty in the area?
I'd rather see tax dollars going to Israel to help kill islamic terrorists than have my tax dollars go to islamic terrorists to kill us, as you apparently prefer.
Your persistent support for America's enemies makes you an enemy of America yourself. Please register with the State Department.
A possible explanation is that Jewish people insist they are “God’s chosen people.”
The concept exists in Judaism, but is viewed differently in Christianity.
In Judaism: Jews believe they were “chosen by God” to enter into a unique covenant. According to the a “Jewish Learning guide,” this means they were selected .....not for privilege or superiority.... but to receive the Torah and serve as a “light unto the nations,” taking on the responsibility of living a holy life and exemplifying justice and morality.
Some say that the Jews of Israel are not the Biblical Jews chosen. And nowhere does it say that “chosen” Jews have the right to bomb, kill and injure others.
Here's a good thread from 2004 from FR that shows what actually happened during the attack. Fog of war on steroids, and some really stupid decisions taken beforehand by LBJ's Naval command.
As for classification, Adm. Moorer would be vulnerable to prosecution if his disclosures violated the directives of the US government. Since the US government did not formally accept Israel's explanation for the attack and Moorer's statements were never sanctioned, the US government may have done so to put Israel on record publicly that we know the truth about the attack on the Liberty and never to repeat the offense. Sovereign states sometimes do that sort of thing.
He's being an @$$hole troublemaker.
Who ya gonna believe, Israel apologists or your lyin’ eyes?
At least Japan after WWII, never stole and sold our NATO defense plans to the Soviets nor sold US tech to the Chinese. Oh wait, is mentioning that, anti-semetic?
Name another country, where people from other countries (with no kinship) freakout and hurl insults when said country’s bad behavior is called out. Yes, royalty.
If the only complaints you have of bad behavior of sovereigns is about Israel, then yes, you are an anti semite.
And since you take such offense about possibly being put in that billet, I leave it to you to name another country worthy of complaint, which should be easy for you since you’re such a true heart.
The Israeli Navy at the time of the 6 Day War was a tiny, primarily coastal defense force that lacked professional leadership and relied on largely poorly skilled conscript sailors . The state of the art of its equipment was not sophisticated and borderline obsolete.
Intercepts from Israeli comms demonstrate that they initially identified it as the El Quiser and attacked it as such. At distance, the resemblance is very close between the Liberty and El Quiser.
The USS Liberty was attacked for 23 minutes from location of the vessel and the termination of attacks and for the IAF fighter pilots they were on their third or fourth mission of the day.
The intel torpedo attacks were from a longer distance and shortly after the initiation of the attack, recognition of the ship was made more difficult due the fact that the ship was obscured due to smoke from ships fires and thick black smoke from napalm attacks from IAF fighters.
When it became clear that there was an mis identification, the Israeli Navy set up search and rescue missions.
Basically, this was almost certainly a mistake made in the fog of war by inexperienced, poorly trained Israeli sailors led by less than competent and probably grossly negligent Naval officers.
The IAF pilots who attacked the Liberty were flying fast moving jets and were firing at a ship already in flames and obscured by smoke from torpedo attacks . The IAF was an air to air and air to ground focused force and it's pilots were not well trained on naval ship recognition and relied heavily upon the target identification provided by the Navy.
I'm at a loss to understand the sudden focus on a largely forgotten tragedy from 60 years ago when the same people which to exploit the 60 year old tragedy for their political agendas while ignoring both very recent and past Iranian , Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthi and Qaeda/ISIS deliberate and unprovoked attacks on US Naval and civilian vessels (including the aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman) and aircraft not to mention thousands of ballistic missile and drone attacks on mostly civilian targets that continue to this day
How about a little love for our military people who are being attacked by Iran and It's proxies in the here and now?
