In November 2025, the Governor of Texas designated CAIR as a foreign terrorist organization. In April 2026, federal legislation was proposed to designate CAIR as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organization and remove its tax-exempt status.
CAIR denies all allegations, stating it is a legitimate American Muslim organization targeted by “Islamophobic” campaigns and that it operates in full compliance with U.S. laws.
