why are at least 1/2 of the black population good people and the other half people you wouldnt trust to feed your cat or even pet it??

'Why didn't he just walk away? He could have left the tent at any time. He didn't. He didn't abandon the encounter.' Because he sat down in that tent with the intent of causing a confrontation. He knew that he was not supposed to be in another school's tent.
He went out of his way to cause a fight.
He brought a knife to a school event which he knew was forbidden.
Did he go to the track meet with intent to kill some white kid, we don't know. But the known facts suggest that he did.
