Already did last year. Couldn't be happier to be out of there.
Same here. Sold our house in NJ, pocketed a nice chunk after owning the house for the last 15 years, and moved here to our house Tennessee this past March. We have had the house in TN since 2021 when 30-year mortgage rates were sub-3%, just waiting for the right time to pull the rip cord and move here full time.
Stopped playing the "one more year" game in February 2026 after getting my annual bonus for 2025 and put the house up for sale. Once the funds from the sale settled, we were gone and have no intention of ever going back. Congrats to you for escaping NJ. Happy to join that club.
You story sounds a lot like mine. Lived in NJ my entire life, the last 20 years in the same house. Sold it for a good gain, bought a bigger, much nicer house on a bigger lot with lower taxes in GA. We considered Tennessee, but the kids and my wife’s entire family live in GA, so it was sort of a no-brainer.
