I always look at last names. Last names ( and sometimes those names are changed, like camouflage,) they can tell you quite a bit.

Those home-made word salad first names are a dead give away too.

Like Perry Mason, the guilty party in Columbo is usually the person who seems to not have done it, except when the murderer is Jack Cassidy. He looked like a murderer.
