Our lives are SO much better for that. I still remember my Opa (German grandfather) calling it the “Idiot Box” around 1959 when I was 8 years old! I never appreciated that until much later.
Of course, I still remember his huge console tv with the electromechanical remote channel changer. “Ka-chunk, ka-chunk, ka-chunk.” A relay and motor would move the channel selector knob mechanically via remote control! So even Opa snuck in viewing now and then.
I’m a Luddite in many ways. Lived without electricity several places, cook from scratch, heal myself and others with herbs. Modern “civilization” has quite a few defects.
And TV was so different in the “olden days” - when were very young, we had a tiny TV and watched Hopalong Cassidy, Sky King, Kaptain Kangaroo. Nothing insidious, filthy, brain rotting, like now.
