The American Dream today is the ability to raise a family as far away from the consequences of the civil rights movement as possible.

It’s the 13%, not the bottom quintile, that causes most of the social and criminal problems.

When I attended public high school it was actually a prep for AT LEAST junior college.
That was back in the days when black kids were bussed into our school in a misguided effort to have racial equality throughout the school system.
Nobody liked it, the white kiss didn’t, the black kids didn’t and the parents didn’t either.
The reason there wasn’t a lot of trouble between the cracks was the black kids were outnumbered probably 5 to 1.
Without that distraction, back then the quality of the education was actually very good.
Of course that was in the late 70s.....since then the public education system in this country has gone to shit.

I would add that "bottom quintile" is not a racist dog whistle. I lived in Gradyland (Polk Co. FL) for 40 years before recently moving to Denton TX. The bottom quintile there is comprised of American Blacks, immigrant Haitians, Puerto Ricans, and about 50% Caucasian rednecks, who would by themselves have caused all of the Burkett-enumerated troubles if they were alone at the bottom 20%.
The American Dream in Polk Co was to live and work in portions of the county not inhabited by any of the above, and it was a dream pursued in the county not only by whites, but also by upper quintile blacks, Indians (mostly in medicine), Vietnamese, and legal Mexicans, Cubans, and Venezuelans. To quote the guy the civil rights movement quotes and then spits on, it's not the color of the skin but the content of the character.

The implementation of forced desegregation (bussing) in schools - injecting that "bottom quintile" into every academic space - was the beginning of the end of public schooling, and much private schooling as well.
It dumbed down every expectation for academic excellence across the board. In fact, you were not ALLOWED to excel at the risk of highlighting the disparity.

So true. I think that speaks for allowing islam in a nation too. Once they get hold of that quintile, you deal with their bs.
