I didn't insist that he *was*, I only said that what Hegseth was doing at the Gallrein event was explicitly forbidden by the Hatch Act (which is what you denied).

So in other words, the lawyers took a look at the clear letter of the law and the DOJ's official policy and said "nah, he's cool".
