Her answer was something like because of the Depression and Hitler all the moral upstanding people they knew were. Implying if you weren’t you were either immoral or too stupid to understand. Typical leftist elitist view that they could run things for the “little people” and create utopia. (Same attitude they have today!) Rand who had to flee such thinking, I’m sure saw right through him. Oppenheimer was lucky he had Groves to protect him.
