What does the Justice department have to do with it? They don’t draw the lines. Perhaps it for rubbing it in purposes.

the justice department is involved because racial gerrymandering is racial discrimination against all other races besides blacks.

I think it has to be done because many of these districts were ordered to be created by the courts in an effort to help the Democrats flip the states. If a district was created as a racial majority district by a court it needs to be brought to court by the DOJ and challenged.

For decades, in the South, the Justice Dept had to approve any new redistricting, to ensure blacks had majority districts they could win.
