Interesting. China was never a country for the longest time. It was run by gangs and warlords whose loyalty changed often. Now that it’s ‘united’ it has to keep everyone in line weather it’s Uyghurs, Tibetans, Falun Gong and more than a few others-Hong Kong. Add to that the better life in Taiwan they’re missing out on.
They have internal as well as external dissidents so they’ll always be on the lookout for more threats. Their consulate in SF has demonstrations out front from time to time. Stepping on toes is the only way for them.
