At this point, knives play a central role.
The Mossos d’Esquadra have long warned about the proliferation of knives and blades on the streets, particularly in nightlife areas, transport hubs and certain neighborhoods in the metropolitan area, with the number of confiscated weapons steadily increasing in recent years. The presence of knives does not always translate into more homicides, but it does create an environment where potential violence grows.

This in a country where you’re not permitted to carry a freaking pocketknife unless your trade/employment requires it. Just found that out a couple of weeks ago, as The Colonel’s Wife and I will be there for about 10 days later this month. I’ve carried a pocketknife since I was 7 years old. It’s largely a tool, not a weapon. No knives and no guns allowed, so I’m carrying my fighting cane.

I too have carried one or more knives since age 7 (three at the moment counting my Leatherman). I don’t even know how many knives I own.
Not one of those knives has ever cut anyone except me.
