According to “U.S. News & World Report”, here is how the math, science and technology charter high school performs:

Mathematics Proficiency 21%
Reading Proficiency 56%
Science Proficiency 18%

The system passes them through and says they have a high school diploma. We need to bring back the failed/repeat school year action so these kids have a chance at getting a job when they get out of school. They are not going to fool any employer and you’re not doing them any favor by pretending they can read. The teachers AND parents have failed them.

Silhouette of clothes is garment industry jargon that I would not expect a high school student to know unless he was involved in or familiar with that industry. I had never encountered that term before and had to look it up.

Only words with apostrophes should count.

“She wore a silhouette of clothes”

Is it just me or it’s Kamalaish word salad?
I can read the sentence but it makes no sense.

53% reading proficiency? Must be a real serious hall of learning. I bounce around to three PA universities, on a regular basis, and most of the students couldn’t convince me they’ve ever read a book.

This is especially alarming since this public high school is purported to be a selective premier school. Sadly staggering numbers of urban public high school graduates are functionally illiterate and are incapable of basic math skills. This occurs despite that in most urban locales over $30,000 per sudent per year are spent on their education while they attend. Can’t imagine what basic skills those who drop out prior to high school graduation have attained.Urban public education is despite the spin a colossal failure.

Preparatory Charter School of Mathematics, Science, Technology and Careers.

Its a good thing one doesn't need words like "silhouette," and "extraordinary" to be a NASA rocket scientist!

“silhouette”

Fourth or fifth grade for me. Parochial schools.
Brings up a picture of a woman wearing a nice dress, backlit, semi-transparent.

Maybe the schools could start by first hiring teachers that can do and teach cursive writing.
