There was a defector who flew a Mig-25 from Siberia to Japan, I think in the mid 1970’s. The USAF took it apart all the way down to the last lockwasher. The soviets raised all kinds of hell. They wanted their plane back. Eventually the AF sent it back with each individual part packaged. Thousands of individual packages. They got their plane back.

Name was Belenko. Read his story. Bad marriage. Step father was mean to him. Too many lies told over there. The screw heads were not flat behind the wings as it didn’t effect the speed. It demonstrated how unadvanced they were.

Belenko died recently.

In 2011, a (Lockheed Martin) U.S. RQ-170 Sentinel drone was captured by Iranian forces near Kashmar, Iran. Iran claimed it was brought down using cyberwarfare, while the U.S. initially suggested a malfunction. The U.S. later confirmed the drone's loss but disputed Iran's claims of hacking.

As far as I know, Obama never asked for it back even though most of the country expected him to.
