Babe Ruth will always be the home run king. People forget The Babe spent his first 6 years pitching and only played every 4th to 5th game. NY noticed when he did get to pitch he hit homers.

His “HR per at bat” percentage will not ever be touched.

Because Ruth started as a pitcher, he wasn’t coached to make contact. He swung hard and was successful doing so. Pitching may have indirectly helped his hitting.

Ruth was the first to put a knob at the end of the bat. Helped him get more leverage.

Not a good basestealer. 51% success rate for his career, slightly better than teammate Gehrig’s 50%. Both probably hurt by unsuccessful hit-and-runs. Ruth ended a World Series with a caught stealing. IIRC, Gehrig wasn’t next in the order that game, so Ruth thought it was important to get into scoring position.
