The Villages Charter School is not technically in The Villages. The Villages does not have an actual boundary where something is either in or out. It is a collection of Villages. The Villages Charter School is an amazing school where the kids are (mostly?) respectful and cooperative. Their sports teams, performances, academic achievement, etc., are outstanding. They wear uniforms from pre-K through 12 which probably helps.
Every 11th grader chooses to participate in one of 12 “academies”. They include Restaurent management and Home construction. In home construction they not only help build two Habitat for Humanity homes each year but they also learn how to run a company. These academies are in addition to their academic subjects. When they graduate, they usually have some kind of a certification that could lead to a job although most kids go to college
They can also be in so many advanced classes that 30 students last year graduated high school with their AA degree from a nearby community college.
I visited the Villages back in late February/early March. 2 former co-workers and their spouses living there, questioning my sanity for moving north when I retired. It was pretty nice. We drove past the school, ate in one of the “town square” areas. Lots of restaurants, golf courses, clubs, and exercise opportunities, a very active place for certain.
I enjoyed my visit, but I’m not going to move there. Probably...
