It got so bad in the 40s the government built sanutariums and quarantined those with it.

Very contagious.

Huge places with square miles of land. Totally self-sufficient. Farming, cattle, chicken, pigs.

One was in central west Arkansas just outside Booneville. Ark.

It closed in 1970.

and today ‘ghost hunters’ flock to those buildings because so many people died there thinking that spirits float around afterwards-

the property in Keene, California, that Cesar Chavez acquired in 1970–1971 to serve as the United Farm Workers (UFW) headquarters was originally a tuberculosis (TB) sanitarium known as Stony Brook Retreat. It was used by the California Bureau of Tuberculosis to treat patients from the 1930s until 1967 before becoming a UFW center.

A lot of people don’t know this.
