On the day I was born, MiGs and Sabre Jets were shooting at each other over Pyongyang.
In those days, especially in larger theaters, organists would play the soundtracks. One of my greatest movie-going experiences was watching "The Ten Commandments" (1923) at the La Brea Tar Pits in LA. It was accompanied by a theater organist who had started performing in the 1920s and knew the soundtrack so well that he didn't need sheet music. There's a theater in El Segundo, Calif. that still has a theater organ.
