You’re right. Teachers — especially young teachers with just a few years under their belt — are leaving the profession in droves. The old hands are sticking around, but only to secure their pensions, then they flee. Nobody wants to be around today’s kids.
Despite the fact that on average over $30,000 per student per year is spent in NYC public schools over 40% of the public high schoolgraduates are functionally illiterate and cannot do basic math. If it weren’t for some of the speciality high school that figure would be closer to 60%. The “teachers” trained and coming out of CUNY schools are deplorable.
No one in their right mind wants to send their children to be “taught” by these loser “teachers”.
