Computers are indeed stupid machines and they only do what we tell them to do. That equation as you rightly point out, hasn't changed since the invention of computing.
Whether we tell them to do something in hand-crafted code or AI "Logic & Reasoning" we still tell them to do it.
I've had to learn AI as part of 63 (almost 64) years old. Straight up: I don't trust it and am extremely careful with it.
Ronald Reagan's "trust but verify" has been a bedrock principle of mine for all 42 years of my technology career. It's especially true now.
