We use to have such backups routinely.

They were tapes. Digital backup storage tapes. Off site, multiple sets.

I’m thinking the MBAs got involved and did away with that cost.

Air Gap is no panacea ...

AI can call even offsite in if programmed to do so (think unit=cart in JCL). Only control is a human choosing not to mount the backup. Offsite does give extra time too realize and head off.

Or just lazy IT.

I demand air gapped hard storage of certain data: land files, seismic, well files.

I out this in writing. Talked with IT in special meeting. They didn’t do it. They basically decided I was stupid.

I gave them a second chance.

They still didn’t do it.

I hired a new team and fired the old team.
