The underlying calculation supposes the government can change one variable and everything else will remain the same.

The question is not whether these rick folks can afford the pied-à-terre tax. Of course they can.

The question is how bad they want to avoid paying it.
What if it comes out a lot less expensive to stay in a fancy hotel when occasionally in NYC (after selling the pied-à-terre)?
