What was he actually carrying? A handgun and a shotgun seem a bit much, since he only had two hands and one of the guns would obstruct his using the other. Also he ran very fast for somebody burdened by a shotgun and a pistol, a pistol he fired at one SS agent.

I don’t know the details, but my first thought is that it’s possible to holster a handgun.
