When I was growing up, the Pres and VP were not in the same room together in case of assassination attempt. Then it seemed to become okay, as long as the Speaker of the House wasn't there at the same time as the Pres & VP.. Last night, all 3 were in the same room. That would have left a 92 yr old Sen. Grassley in charge. I wonder if he would have taken the oath & quickly passed the baton to Rubio, who is next in line?
What ever happened to the line of succession rules (protocol) of the past?

I finally went to sleep wondering just HOW did they miss him? It seemed more likely they would have shot one another the way they were scrambling...I couldn’t easily count the number of SS personnel in that video but there had to be at least 10 running after the guy.
The one standing daydreaming, not looking at the entrance, ran some distance away and could hardly get his weapon out..THAT was haunting...exactly like the gal SS at Butler, PA.
It had to be apparent to everyone viewing that video but to speak of it publicly probably was better to leave it until the dust settled..I don’t believe the president would want to call attention to it last night if ever. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin had to be tossing it around at that briefing. You could see the wheels turning. SS agents are working without being funded, right?
If Thune is in the line of succession, then he should be considered a suspect.

The problem I saw from a single ceiling security cam was that return fire was only done after backing away from the perp as he ran by.
If Dems take the house Vance should sit out the next SOTU. And have Trump say it a line of succession concern to be in the same room with the VP and. Dem SotH.

I think until 1947 the next in line after the Vice President was the Secretary of State. That would be better because the Speaker of the House could be of the other party—so if after the November elections the Speaker of the House is a Democrat, that would give the Democrats even more incentive to kill both Trump and Vance.
