So Eric Trump has invested in a company that now has a government contract. Granted, 24 million dollars is a spit in a bucket in terms of contracts. It sounds like funding for developement.
Everything is more in likely on the Up and Up, but still, would have the company gotten this funding if Eric Trump’s name was not attached?
The appearance of impropriety needs to be avoided—even if there isn’t anything there. It just seems, well, unseemly.

Precisely. If this was a response to an RFP and competitively bid, I’m all for it (since unsuccessful bidders can contest). Otherwise, atrocious optics.
For the record I wholly support his action against Iran and much that he's doing domestically, especially on the budget.
But you are quite right, this action is unseemly especially when viewed in the context of firing the Secretary of the Navy and promoting to that post by way of temporary appointment Quang Cao, a very good man fully qualified in my view, but a man who is an advocate for drone warfare.
I'm sure this is only a coincidence, but the coincidence gives our critics one more cudgel to attack us with.
A further context is also problematic, the Trump family is flagrantly profiting along the edge of unseemliness with other huckster like deals.
