Bringing these people to our shores many years ago was the most catastrophic mistake this country ever made and it gets worse every day. It will eventually prove fatal.

It wasn't the decision of “this country”—the United States of America. It was the decision of British government over its colonies, well before the American Revolution. The Founders tried to write slavery out of the Constitution (finalized in 1789), and mportation of slaves became illegal in 1807; but by that time, nearly 200 years after the Mayflower and Jamestown landings, the Southern states had institutionalized its enslaved descendants as a labor force and the Northern states had become accustomed to the profits from distributing or exporting Southern crops. The rest is history.

The best bumper sticker I’ve ever seen: “If only we’d picked our own damn cotton”.
