The group of five went missing in December 1958 in a case that gripped America.

I don't remember it. But I was three years old at the time.

The first thing I remember that "gripped America" was the kid who fell into the open vertical pipe. I think that was before the Kennedy assassination.

Maybe Dad was a family annihilator and drove into the river on purpose.

I saw a video on YouTube about finding their car in the river about nine months ago.

Another thing I remember "gripping the country" (other than assassinations) was the Oven Forks Mine Disaster. But that was in 1976, and I wasn't a child anymore.

Funny how things like that seem to have happened earlier in life than they did.

So what you're saying is that they weren't abducted by aliens? So...

Because it wasn't aliens.

Columbia River in December can be wicked, as well as weather in the Columbia Gorge.

I was wondering if their son Donald was still alive. Did a search and found him on "Find-a-Grave." He died in 2004:

After the two bodies washed up, the car should have been easy to locate, but there was clearly some ball-dropping (not in the British sense) with the whole thing.
