They understand English (and our dialects) very well.
And their mumbling leads us to assume what they are saying.
And we give up information based on that, what we think they mean.
And they follow up and encourage . . .

The one I got today asked me to speak slower and louder (I already have a loud voice). I don't get such requests from native English speakers. Also, when I speak with those from India in person at work, they sometimes seem to know what I say, but respond in a manner that shows I was misinterpreted. Again, does not happen with U.S. folks.
