My male fourth grade teacher was TOUGH. He brooked no nonsense in his classroom. I got beaned just once by a fast-pitched piece of chalk and didn’t misbehave after that. He actually hurled chalk at miscreants! And he had dead true aim. This was in 1960, so he was probably a WW II Vet.

A male 4th grade teacher at my school was obviously gay, very flamboyant. But he kept it to himself except for his taste in clothes (it was the early 70’s so who could tell?).
He was a very tough teacher but we respected him for it. He was actually quite popular. and miscreants didn’t survive very long in his class.
