It was a big thrill going to NYC to see a Yankee game with my Uncle when I was a wee lad back in the 60’s . Once I became an adult often went there to see bands in the late 70’s/early 80’s but never liked the place . Too many bad vibes , dirty , and full of rude , obnoxious loud mouths . I’ll take Tokyo any day .
Well, it used to be my playground. Now it’s just a hole with big buildings strewn about, some of which haven’t been uglified yet.
I went there for the first time in 1964, to the World’s Fair. I was four years old, but it was unforgettable. My little brother was given a flashy cowboy hat, but threw it into the fountains with the flood lights giving the waters different colors. There was a giant cowboy blowing smoke rings. The fair grounds were still there in Corona Park, last I was in the neighborhood, decades ago. The Empire State Building is still there, for now. Back then the WTC was just under construction.
