It’s not the bison that is the problem in a thermal area, it’s the hot water in the ground. I always remember the story of the guy who jumped in a pool to save his dog. People said don’t do it but he did anyway. As soon as he got in he said he wished he hadn’t done it and promptly died. The water is clear as a cold pool but it is hotter than boiling.
It wasn't that prompt. I think he died the next day, after around 20 hours of agony. His eyes went as white as two poached eggs. One of the people who pulled him out got serious burns.
For a few days after, the pool erupted like a geyser several times. They think the dog's body messed up its internal thermochemistry.
From what I understand, it is also very acidic and bodies can just dissolve.
Who brings a dog to a place where one misstep can parboil you? Moron probably didn’t put the pup on a leash either. I know it’s terrible to say, but I’m glad this owner expired in such a hideous way given what fate he gave his dog.
It is acidic (plus hot).
