Feral Hog in that area is a possibility. You don’t realize how vicious they are until you are attacked by one. Fortunately, a .45 will stop one.
I rented a terrific house on top of a ridge in Big Sur. Kids had a terrific time, Owner told us only bottles and cans went in the garbage, just toss anything edible “over the edge” where the wild boar would eat it.
Had to be careful that those horrible critters didn’t eat my two Welsh Corgis or my cat.
