So someone has to find out who told her, she didnt just make it up, someone told her

My question is - whoever the reporter was, did they reach out to the DOD / DOW to get a confirmation? If so, did DOD / DOW ask them to sit on the story so as to not compromise the rescue (the preferred course of action).
