There was a term, c. 1920s, a “gay blade”. Google defines the term thus:
“A “gay blade” is a dated, often colloquial phrase referring to a dashing, lively, and carefree young man.”
The last time I saw that expression used (gay blade), was back in 1981. Actor George Hamilton acting in a comedy called
“Zorro, The Gay Blade”.
When Zorro is injured, his flamboyant gay twin brother Ramon
takes over. Not exactly Oscar Material.
