I get your point. But once someone understands their error, I think they should be welcomed back. Our numbers on the right are few enough. “Let’s keep an eye out for things like that going forward. Let’s work the problem so good people aren’t taken in like that again” is what I tell anyone who took it but sees now they were sold a bill of goods.
Perhaps the first thing to give me pause over Covid was a simple admonishment I read here on Free Republic just as it all started with the horror stories coming out China: “Do you believe what the CCP tells you?”
I remember those and was suspicious that they could be propaganda from the start.
Nevertheless, IF they were accurate, and knowing human nature, I began prepping and sure enough, it was needed. At least I had toilet paper.

I’ve often spoken out of ignorance but Knowledge grows and compassion increases.
A hardened Heart will lash out refusing to accept their errors.
I believe it’s a Heart issue not head.
