It’s kinda hard to argue NATO’s primary purpose when you don’t get the function of its military alliance correct.

We should pretty much close all our bases in Europe. If we need to keep one base open in Europe, we can make a separate deal with Germany.

And that's the way it should be. Bilateral Agreement instead of an alliance system like NATO where you have countries getting away with not having to contribute.
