I have written two novels about a World War 2 sailor and this story really made me tear up. Imagine serving, surviving the death March and dying in a hellish Japanese prison camp...and no one remembered you existed or knew what you endured. It is tragic beyond words. I’m so glad that he has been discovered.
Had to be horrible.
The Japanese wartime leaders who were executed for war crimes were cremated and their ashed dropped out of a plane somewhere over the Pacific, to prevent graves becoming shrines. That was a smart move, and appropriate.
