I am wondering about the possibility of designing & building something like a newer improved version of an A-10 (A-12?) since it is an aging aircraft that really fills a niche. In the meantime, I’m sure glad that someone had the foresight to build A-10s; those things are awesome!
That sounds like a good idea, but when the military industrial complex gets a hold of a project like that, and the end product will have been adapted to meet so many perceived needs that it won’t come close to meeting the original objective, and will likely be cancelled after the project has been milked for billions in cost overruns.
