When “American Woman” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Hundred, I couldn’t believe it. Why would any American buy a record that runs down our country? Yet enough Americans did to boost the record to the top of the chart.

It was a catchy tune and in retrospect one with a message we should have paid more attention too. Elvis’s/Mac Davis’s song “In the Ghetto” was another cautionary tale. Every time I hear it, I think about how little has changed in 50 years in spite of billions of dollars being spent to ‘fix’ the problem.
