She is lying but regardless the ethical standard for judges and lawyers is actually pretty clear.
Even the appearance of impropriety is cause for recusal.
The problem is most judges and lawyers have zero ethics and morals, so they refuse to comply with even this commonsense standard.
That isn't true, but enough fall short and get exposed that it taints the rest in the eyes of at least some of the public.
